Your chronic illness is NOT the reason medical insurance/ medicines cost so much !

I had to come on quickly and excerpt this . Those of us with chronic ilnesses have enough stress already without shouldering the blame for medical costs rising.

"The issue boils down to this: Are those with chronic conditions one of the primary causes of an almost unfathomable increase in healthcare costs and the corresponding jumps in health insurance costs? "

"Too, why must drugs be so expensive in the U.S.? I understand the need for R&D(research and development), but I ask Big Pharma not to hide behind R&D as to why they charge high prices for their drugs. One reason is the outrageous amount of money spent on promotion for drugs we usually don't need for conditions we never knew that we had and probably could survive without knowing that we did have them.
Pharmaceutical companies spend nearly double on promotion than that of R&D. Let me repeat that: for every dollar of R&D money spent, Pharma spends almost two dollars on marketing.  Yet, for those wearing the Scarlet letter for whatever chronic illness they have, rest assured you are not the sole or even primary cause for the astronomical cost of care."

Let us all remember who is responsible for healthcare costs being astronomical . Keep fighting. If we are not part of the solution , we are part of the problem -soulight

reply to Soulight:---You made my day by posting that med cost info. I have been on mediare and medicaid for over 13 years and more and more they are disallowing the brand name drugs in lieu of the generic which I have nothing against. I am supposed to have a very high priced medicationthat would help my depression and in the long run enable me to walk a little bit better as it works in conjunction with my pain med. But the state will not pay for it nor will medicare so here I am having totake my pain meds with the hope that I will get them to changd their minds.. But I will not take this sitting down, I've written everyone of my state's representatives and senators as well as our governor. And since I can't afford the meds the drug company is going to  qualify me for a 3 month supply. But the real goal here is to clarify and archaic law that serves no one. Thankyou so very much for sharing with us and listening to my diatribe. sincerely sheshe030
